The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has reopened applications for its Back in the Saddle programme, a free coaching initiative designed to support experienced equine veterinary professionals.
Now entering its third year, the six-month scheme is open to BEVA members who have been qualified for more than five years. It aims to help vets and veterinary nurses rebuild confidence, regain direction and navigate career challenges within equine practice.
More than 100 professionals have already taken part in Back in the Saddle and its companion programme, Leg Up, which supports those in the early stages of their careers.
Supporting long-term careers in equine practice
Originally launched in 2024, Back in the Saddle was developed to support professionals facing key transitions, such as returning to work after time away or reassessing their career path.
The programme combines structured coaching with peer support, offering participants the opportunity to reflect, share experiences and develop practical strategies in a confidential group setting.
Sessions are delivered monthly online over six months, with a coaching team made up of experienced veterinary professionals. Recent expansion of the programme has also strengthened support specifically for veterinary nurses.
Building confidence and resilience
According to BEVA, coaching is increasingly recognised as an important tool in improving professional resilience and supporting long-term retention in the equine sector.
Feedback from previous cohorts has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting improvements in confidence, clarity and job satisfaction. All participants in the 2025 cohort rated the programme as excellent or very good and said they would recommend it to others.
The group format has also been highlighted as a key benefit, helping to reduce feelings of isolation while providing a supportive environment to explore challenges and opportunities within practice.
Free places available for 2026
The programme is free to join, with 25 places available for the 2026 cohort.
Applications are open until Wednesday 27 May 2026, and are available to BEVA member vets and veterinary nurses who are more than five years qualified. Click here to learn more.
