Performance Health - brought to you by Flair® Equine Nasal Strips

In the athletic horse, the respiratory system operates with little margin for error. Horses are obligate nasal breathers, and during exercise the nasal passages account for most of the total airway resistance. Even small increases in resistance raise the work of breathing, divert oxygen and blood flow away from locomotor muscles, and increase the negative pressures transmitted to the lungs.

Those pressures matter. Excessive negative inspiratory pressures contribute to pulmonary capillary stress and are associated with exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH). When breathing becomes more expensive, performance and long-term respiratory health can both be affected.

FLAIR® Nasal Strips are designed to support airflow at the beginning of the respiratory airways. Clinically proven to reduce nasal airway resistance, FLAIR lowers the work of breathing and the negative pressures generated during exercise. In controlled studies, this reduction in pressure has been shown to decrease the severity of EIPH.

By supporting more efficient breathing mechanics, FLAIR Strips help horses reduce fatigue, recover more efficiently, and better utilize the cardiovascular capacity they were bred to use.
