Dr. Kieran O’Brien


Dr Kieran O’Brien qualified as a vet in Ireland, and after a short spell in two equine hospitals he completed a PhD at Cambridge.

He spent 12 years as a lecturer and clinician at Bristol Veterinary School before moving in 1998 to an equine veterinary practice on the Devon/Cornwall border where he has been a senior clinician in an equine practice for over 25 years.

Kieran is an FEI Official Veterinarian and has been a team vet for British and Irish teams. As such, he has officiated at many international events, including at three World Equestrian Games. 

Kieran is also a regular contributor to horse magazines, including Horse and Hound, and the author of the book: Essential Horse Health. He breeds and imports Connemara sports ponies.

Dr Kieran Obrien has written the book Essential Horse Health: A Practical In-Depth Guide to the Most Common Equine Health Problems. It is available as a Hardback and Paperback.
