Animal Geneticist

Dr Victoria Lindsay-McGee is an animal geneticist at the University of Edinburgh’s vet school. She is part of the programme team for the postgraduate Equine Science programme, and teaches on the veterinary medicine programme. Victoria conducts research into equine genetics and genomics of complex traits including both disease and performance, and is interested in statistical modelling of equine health and performance data.

Victoria’s PhD from the Royal Veterinary College investigated the genomic architecture of equine exertional rhabdomyolysis, where she was the recipient of the McKeever Prize for the Graduating PhD Student with the Best Original Research Paper.

Outside of work, Victoria enjoys riding her own horse, cycling, and is an active rugby referee.

A new research study, led by Victoria an the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with US researchers, is calling on equestrian industry professionals and enthusiasts across the UK and Europe to share their opinions on equine genetics. This unique opportunity allows horse owners, breeders, and anyone involved in the equine world to directly shape the future of genetics research and science education in the field.
