A Cambridge-based tech company has launched a new artificial intelligence-driven application that lets pet owners monitor their animal’s heart health at home using just a smartphone.
Decorte Future Industries, a Cambridge startup specialising in AI and sound-based health diagnostics, has officially released Sonus Health, an app that uses a phone’s built-in microphone to record cardiac audio data from a pet’s chest and provide immediate feedback on key heart health indicators.
Owners simply place their smartphone against their pet’s chest to record heart sounds. The app then analyses the audio using machine learning to generate preliminary heart rate, heart rate variability and murmur indications, giving an instant indication of possible issues. A detailed report reviewed by a veterinary cardiologist follows, helping owners and vets identify potential problems early.
The technology behind Sonus Health was co-developed with veterinary cardiologists to deliver clinically useful insights without the need for specialist equipment, offering a potentially more accessible and cost-effective approach to early cardiac screening.
As part of the launch, Decorte has already given early access to more than a dozen veterinary clinics worldwide. More than 160 clinics across regions, including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, have also joined a global waitlist to use the service.
The launch comes at a time when veterinary costs are rising, and chronic conditions such as heart disease are becoming more common in ageing pet populations, increasing pressure on both owners and veterinary practices.
Key features of Sonus Health include:
- Smartphone-based heart sound scans using only the device’s microphone
- Immediate preliminary readings on heart rate and potential anomalies
- Specialist-reviewed health reports designed to support veterinary consultations
